Hello, I'm Gary Meeks, and I've been honored to serve as an elder at Community Church. My specific focus is on being the liaison for both the senior group and the missions committee, which involves overseeing the church's various activities and addressing any challenges that arise. Essentially, we ensure everything runs smoothly and in alignment with our mission.
My journey with Community Church began in the fall of 1965, when I started attending sporadically. My connection deepened when I married my wife, Lola, here in 1966. The 1970s were a transformative time for me. It was then that I made a serious commitment to walk with the Lord, a path I've never strayed from since.
On a personal note, I'm blessed with a wonderful family. Lola and I have three children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. My son, Scott, isn't often seen around, but my daughters are actively involved in the church, continuing our family's legacy of faith and community involvement.
When it comes to my calling, I believe strongly in discipleship, particularly through personal connections and encouragement. If I have a gift, it would be the gift of encouragement—helping others walk closely with the Lord. I've enjoyed leading groups, especially the ABF group, and have also been involved with Encore. My passion lies in fostering these personal relationships and guiding others in their spiritual journeys.
Outside of my church duties, I have a variety of hobbies. I enjoy fishing when I get the chance, driving my hot rod occasionally, and dabbling in woodworking and gardening. I'm a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none, but I appreciate the diversity in my interests. We don't travel much due to our local commitments, but we find joy in activities close to home. I even built a car, which I might sell this year—though driving it remains a pleasure.
As for resources that have been helpful to me, there are several authors and materials that stand out. I've read a lot of Larry Crabb's books; he was a Christian psychologist whose insights resonated with me. Jayverne McGee and Dr. Constable from Sunlight have also been influential. And I can't forget Max Lucado—his works always bring a fresh perspective that I find inspiring.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a bit better. I look forward to continuing to serve and encourage our Community Church family.
