Terry Smith

Hello, I'm Terry, and I've been blessed to serve at Community Church for nearly 50 years. In 2024, I'll mark half a century with this wonderful community. My journey here began in 1974 when my wife, Darla, and I, both seeking a new spiritual home, chose this church out of the blue and never looked back. Darla is part of the worship team during the second service, and we have four children and seven grandchildren, all actively involved in various ministries.

As an elder, my role is multifaceted. Biblically, elders are shepherds of the flock, overseeing the church's operations and ensuring effective ministry to all groups. This involves reviewing the pastor's teachings, maintaining doctrinal unity, and addressing issues within the congregation. Though it's a challenging task, especially in striving to be proactive rather than reactive, it's a responsibility I hold dearly.

In addition to my elder duties, I serve as the church treasurer, bringing my financial background to support our church's stewardship. My passion, however, lies in teaching. Over 35 years ago, I began facilitating an ABF class, which grew into a permanent teaching role. My journey to faith was driven by a deep dive into the Bible, transforming skepticism into conviction. I lead an interactive, participatory class, learning as much from my students as they do from me.

Outside of church, I enjoy golfing, though recent injuries have slowed me down. Living by a lake, I cherish weekends filled with family—kids and grandkids bring our home to life. For those seeking to deepen their faith or answer challenging questions, I recommend "Who Moved the Stone?" by Frank Morrison, "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis, "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel, and "Evolution: True or False?" by David Coppage. These books offer profound insights and have greatly impacted my faith journey.

I look forward to continuing to serve and grow with our Community Church family.
