In the beginning of John 6, thousands of people were excitedly following Jesus, but by the end of the chapter, as the result of his difficult and challenging teaching, nearly the whole crowd had deserted him. The disciples stayed not because they were less offended by Jesus words, but because they knew that while his words were difficult, they were true - and thus what they needed -and what we need- to hear.
