few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of organizing a Whirlyball event for our men’s ministry. For those unfamiliar, Whirlyball combines the fun of bumper cars with elements of lacrosse – players use scoops to score by getting a ball into a hole on a basketball-like backboard. It's an unusual game, but undeniably enjoyable.
Though we strategically scheduled the event during a bye week for the Buckeyes game, several other events coincidentally lined up on the same day. This, combined with vacations and other commitments, meant our attendance was a bit lighter than expected. Still, the eight of us that gathered found joy in the fellowship. It was less about spending time in scripture and more about bonding, having fun, and glorifying God through our actions by maintaining a good witness and keeping our tempers in check.
A particularly memorable moment came when Pastor Mike's son, David, made an impressive play. From almost midcourt, he took a shot that not only hit the backboard, granting one point, but actually went in, earning two points! It was a sight to behold.
Even with some minor mishaps, like my son accidentally running into a wall, the day was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and good-natured competition. We look forward to more such events in the future and hope more of you can join us next time.
