hen asked about Denny and Sonya Davis, a couple deeply rooted in service, I had to smile. They’re such an integral part of our church that it’s hard to imagine life here without them. Together, they exemplify what it means to serve with both heart and hands.
Denny has been with me in ministry for decades, starting back when we worked together at the chapel. In those days, he was a college student working as a custodian and sound crew member while I was managing our radio program. Years later, it was a joy to cross paths again when Denny and Sonya joined our church family. It’s been about five years now since they began serving here, and they’ve poured themselves into every role with humility and dedication.
Each Tuesday, you’ll find the duo hard at work in the music office. They’re officially “music coordinators,” meaning they handle all the behind-the-scenes preparation for our choir—from pulling and organizing the sheet music weeks in advance to tidying up the choir loft after Sunday services. Their attention to detail keeps things running like clockwork so our choir can focus on singing for God’s glory.
Sonya, in addition to her work here, has years of experience volunteering with Haven of Rest and contributing her secretarial skills at the chapel. Together, they also serve on our Encore Ministry committee, always pitching in for luncheons and events.
What stands out most to me about Denny and Sonya is their servant hearts. From day one, they’ve asked, “Where can we help?” Whether it’s running the soundboard, or even cleaning up stray gum wrappers, they do it all joyfully and with excellence.
Denny and Sonya embody the biblical call to servanthood. Their lives point to Christ, and their example is an inspiration to all of us. I thank them for putting God first and faithfully stepping into every opportunity to serve Him.
