Mountainside Weekend

Strengthening Youth Connections

I

n February, I joined our middle and high school students for Mountainside Weekend at Community Church, a retreat designed to bring our youth group together. It was a blend of fun, worship, and deep spiritual engagement, all aimed at helping students connect with God and each other.

We spent a memorable Saturday engaging in activities at local spots like Dave and Busters and a trampoline park, alongside sessions that focused on worship and Bible studies. These moments were golden opportunities for our leaders to bond with students, fostering trust and deeper relationships.

Mountainside Weekend was born out of a desire to offer our students a meaningful break from the winter's dreariness and the pressures of school life. Inspired by Jesus's retreats to the mountainside for prayer, we aimed to create a similar space for our students to reconnect with God. This year's theme, "Connect," emphasized the importance of establishing a connection with God, reminding students that He has always been reaching out to them.

One of the highlights was witnessing students share personal testimonies about their prayer lives and how they engage with the Bible. It was incredibly impactful to see peers influencing each other's spiritual journeys.

A standout memory involved Braden Lombardi, a student leader, volunteering to play a key role in a game, showcasing his growth and eagerness to contribute to the community's spiritual life. His willingness to step out of his comfort zone was a testament to the transformative power of our ministry.

Overall, Mountainside Weekend was a testament to the power of community and the importance of spiritual retreats in fostering deeper connections with God and each other.
