very month at our Encore Ministry luncheons we try to offer a truly special experience, prioritizing getting together for fellowship, meals, and meaningful conversations with those aged 50 and up in our church. Our recent luncheon was Thanksgiving-themed, with everyone bringing their favorite Thanksgiving dishes. Despite a bit of worry about having enough turkey, we ended up with a hearty spread and a wonderful time of fellowship.
The highlight was the unique entertainment by Jim Hicks, a former art teacher with a remarkable testimony. Saved at 30, Jim felt God calling him to use his talent for chalk art in a new way. During the luncheon, he created an awe-inspiring chalk drawing honoring Veterans Day, featuring the Statue of Liberty with the American flag behind it and a figure kneeling in prayer. The scene resonated deeply with everyone, especially our veterans, reminding us all of God's presence and strength amidst our nation’s challenges.
Our committee is always brainstorming new ideas for these luncheons, whether it’s musical performances, personal testimonies, or even practical sessions on things like insurance. Each month offers something different, enriching our gatherings with diverse insights and inspiration. Hearing Jim’s journey and watching his art unfold left a lasting impression, making this luncheon one of the most memorable yet.
