his past December, we hosted our annual Women’s Tea (we really had hot cocoa) and Cookie Exchange, an event that’s become such a meaningful tradition for ladies in our church, teens and up. It was a warm time of fellowship, reflection, and—of course—cookies! The idea is simple: everyone brings two dozen cookies. One dozen is shared and taken home, while the other dozen goes to Encore Ministries for their outreach to shut-ins. This year, that collaboration added an extra layer of purpose to what has historically been just a fun, low-key gathering.
We had a hot cocoa bar with all kinds of goodies—marshmallows, candies, different whipped cream flavors—and even some charcuterie snacks. Each table was decorated with a unique theme by different women’s team members, which added to the festive atmosphere. We also kept things relaxed with an easy craft project, fitting for the busy holiday season.
It was a smaller group this time, about 27 ladies, as the event coincided with another holiday gathering. Still, the turnout was heartfelt, and we’re planning better scheduling next year to avoid overlap.
One of my favorite moments was Jackie Sample’s impromptu devotional. She reminded us that while “it’s better to give than receive”. Without first receiving Jesus, we wouldn’t have anything to give. Her words resonated deeply with all of us.
Encore’s cookie ministry was a key highlight. The shut-ins absolutely loved their treats, and it was touching to see how much they looked forward to them. This simple act of giving really tied the event’s mission together.
