A Night of Whirlyball

Fellowship Beyond Church Walls

R

ecently, we hosted a WhirlyBall event—a blend of bumper cars, lacrosse, and a bit of basketball with wiffle balls. We had an amazing turnout, with 14 people joining us, including a few newcomers and friends from work, as well as members of our men’s group. It was great to see new faces who don’t usually attend church getting involved, and we hoped it might be the start of some new connections.

The goal of events like WhirlyBall is simple: to create a space where we can bond over a shared love for sports and friendly competition. It’s an easy way to invite people who may not typically engage with church activities, letting us build relationships in a relaxed setting.

One of the more entertaining parts of the night was when some of the buggies started stalling out, like bumper cars that suddenly hit a “dead spot” and wouldn’t budge. We had to help each other get unstuck, which added to the fun. When we switched courts, I got a new buggy that was much faster, and let’s just say, scoring became a bit easier after that.

We captured some great photos and videos to give people a better idea of what WhirlyBall is all about. It’s not a league or a big commitment—just two hours of fellowship, fun, and hopefully a foundation for new friendships. I can’t wait to host another one soon!
